How we helped 11 start-ups working on plastic waste prevention & chemical recycling tell their story.
In late 2019 EIT Climate KIC approached us to help out with design work for the startups of their online accelerator program, focused on plastic waste prevention and chemical recycling. This European program consisted of 17 early-stage startups who were either working on solutions to prevent plastic waste or developed chemical recycling solutions and were in the process of bringing them to the market. Climate KIC asked us to deliver bespoke design services to each of the start-ups that needed it. We delivered design work to 11 startups over the course of 8 weeks.
We developed brand identities, designed websites, social media strategies and editorial work for the start-ups depending on their needs. This humbling project allowed us to design for so many people that want to do good for the climate.
Design
The challenge with designing for 11 startups in 8 weeks is time management so we designed a system for ourselves to be able to handle the amount of work with just two people.
System design
The majority of the startups were trying to change a system of a particular field. They were working on topics such as a reusable nappy cleaning service, a refillable cleaning detergent service, chemical recycling etc. Most of them needed help with making their new system or service clear. They needed either to re-design the way the system looks or adapt the system itself.
Web design
The websites of the startups were built on different platforms (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace etc.) Since the time frame of the project was short, we couldn’t design the web pages on each different platform. We provided them with a UX & UI design and basic SEO.
Strategy
A mistake of a lot of companies, not just the startups, is that they want to be on every social media platform. When you are just with a few people, it is impossible to maintain all the different platforms. We often suggest exploring which 2 are most relevant for your audience and make sure that there is enough interesting content.
Visualize
Next to the startups that specifically asked us to do the branding, we did a little branding work for all the teams to make sure they got the best visuals for their goal.
Other visual work we did:
Pitch decks for presentations to stakeholders or investors for a next seeding round.
Visualize systems
Social media visuals
